  • Departing Invercargill, begin your scenic journey north toward Te Anau, tracing a route through Southland’s coastal and rural beauty.
Start your day with a visit to Oreti Beach, where the vast sands and sea views offer a peaceful farewell to the southern coast. Then head west through Riverton, a charming seaside town known for its laid-back vibe. If time allows, stop by the Te Hikoi Museum (entry not included) for a glimpse into Southland’s rich natural and cultural heritage—or even try your hand at a surf lesson.

Continue along the Southern Scenic Route to Tuatapere, the gateway to the Hump Ridge Track, one of the Great Walks of New Zealand. The journey weaves through picturesque farmland and forested landscapes, with occasional glimpses of the rugged coastline.

As you near Te Anau, the terrain transforms into rolling hills and lakeside scenery. Settle into this peaceful township nestled beside the majestic Lake Te Anau—your gateway to Fiordland National Park—and enjoy a relaxing evening surrounded by the tranquility of the southern wilderness.

  • Milford Sound Piopiotahi is a Bucket List destination, described by Rudyard Kipling as ‘The 8th Wonder of the World’.

Experience the natural beauty, the incredible scale and the often, deafening silence of Milford Sound by taking a cruise deep into the Fiord. On boarding a RealNZ coach in Te Anau, travel along the spectacular Milford Road. There is time for photo stops and short walks along the way. On reaching Milford Sound, board a luxury RealNZ vessel for a Scenic Cruise the full length of Milford Sound to the Tasman Sea. The vessel provides excellent viewing opportunities and plenty of time is available to enjoy waterfalls, rainforest, mountains and wildlife. A comprehensive commentary is presented throughout the cruise. Barista made coffee and organic tea available for purchase on board the vessel.

Return transport to Te Anau is again by luxury coach, providing time to reflect on the beautiful scenery.

  • Departing Te Anau, begin your journey toward Queenstown, travelling through some of the South Island’s most dramatic and scenic landscapes.
As you leave the peaceful lakeside township, take a moment to enjoy the views of Lake Te Anau and the surrounding Fiordland ranges. Before heading off, consider a quick stop at the Fiordland National Park Visitor Centre to reflect on the region’s natural wonders and learn more about the landscapes you’ve explored.

Heading northeast, the road takes you through lush farmland and expansive tussock plains as you make your way to the historic town of Kingston, nestled at the southern tip of Lake Whakatipu. Once a vital hub during the gold rush era, Kingston played an important role linking the goldfields of the Whakatipu District with the ports of Dunedin. Today, it offers a tranquil lakeside setting and a chance to stretch your legs by the water.

From Kingston, prepare to climb the road affectionately known as the ‘Devil’s Staircase’—a winding stretch of highway that hugs the dramatic cliffs of Lake Whakatipu. As you ascend, you’ll be rewarded with spectacular lake and mountain views, perfect for photo stops and a chance to take in the grandeur of the region.

Soon, you’ll arrive in Queenstown, a vibrant alpine resort town known for its adventure, beauty, and hospitality. Settle into your accommodation and enjoy an evening soaking up the energy of this iconic destination, with its buzzing restaurants, lakeside walks, and stunning alpine backdrop.
