Things to do
- Visit Waitangi Treaty Grounds, the site where Māori and the British Crown came together to sign the Treaty of Waitangi – the nation’s founding document. Tailor-made tours and activities can be arranged for your clients.
- With a guided tour by day or at twilight, your clients can experience some of the largest and oldest living rainforest trees in the world, including the 2000-year-old Tane Mahuta (Lord of the Forest).
- On the east coast your clients will find the Bay of Islands – with long stretches of white sand beach and sheltered bays. They can spot dolphins while cruising or sailing the clear waters, or take a scenic flight. By contrast, the west coast is rugged and unspoiled – suggest your clients visit Hokianga, where 1,000 years ago the great explorer Kupe is said to have landed.
- This marine reserve has been rated as one of the top-ten dive sites in the world, featuring over 50 dive spots and the world’s largest sea cave. Dive! Tutakaka offers dive charters, and snorkelers and kayakers can enjoy the reserve on a day cruise.
- Your clients can take a tour to the top of New Zealand, where the Tasman Sea and Pacific Ocean meet, or sandboard down towering sand dunes lining the beach as far as the eye can see.
Tips & Suggestions
- Northland is home to one of New Zealand’s most acclaimed golf courses, Kauri Cliffs. Your clients can tee off with 180-degree ocean views and stay at the luxury lodge on site.
- Starting in Auckland, the 800km Twin Coast Discovery Highway loops around both of Northland’s coastlines. The Northland Journeys provide shorter itineraries along parts of the Twin Coast Discovery Route that are filled with points of interest. Suggest your clients take a week to drive the whole route.
